Agriculture and Farm Insurance Specialist Certification Program

The Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS) program is a certification program designed exclusively for agents who write farm ang agribusiness. The specialized curriculum focuses on the insurance and risk management needs of your farm customers.
When you complete the program you are entitled to display the AFIS certification to show your customers your knowledge of agribusiness and farm insurance and risk management and your dedication to their industry.
To Obtain the AFIS Certification
You complete five specialized courses on agribusiness and farm risks and insurance and pass an exam on each course topic. At the conclusion of the course you will receive a log-in voucher code. You must take the exam within 30 days of completing the course and exam results are immediate. The exam for each course contains questions randomly selected from a test bank. You may use both your textbook and forms book during the exam.
To maintain the AFIS Certification
To maintain the AFIS certification, you obtain only 6 hours of approved agribusiness risk and insurance continuing education credit every 12 months, and every third year, you obtain those 6 hours by attending an Emmett J Vaughan Agribusiness Conference.
There are five one-day courses in the AFIS Certification program, including:
- Farm Property (AFIS #1)
- Farm Liability (AFIS #2)
- Farm Auto, Workers Comp & Umbrella Insurance (AFIS #3)
- Special Farm Property Insurance Lines (AFIS #4)
- Miscellaneous Farm Insurance Lines (AFIS #5)

Registration Fee includes: instruction, course materials, coffee breaks, pastries and snacks. Lunch is on your own. Registration fees are deductible as ordinary business expenses, but my not be deducted a charitable contributions.

These courses are each approved for 7 credits in Vermont. Full attendance is required if requesting state continuing education credits. Anyone may attend the courses and receive state continuing education credits without taking the exam. Continuing education credit approval is subject to re-evaluation by the state insurance departments and can change at any time.
To receive a full refund, VIAA must receive a request no later than three (3) days prior to the class and any study material must be returned. Requests received within the three (3) day period are subject to a 20% cancellation fee. No Shows forfeit the entire registration fee.
