YAC Sub Committees

The VIAA Convention Sub Committee is tasked to organize and set up the young agent sponsored events at the annual VIAA Convention. The group is expected to provide ideas, brainstorm and implement successful plans for the YAC sponsored events. The lead member will set up periodic meetings with subcommittee group and report back to Leadership Team. (8 people)

The Awards/Young Agents Leadership Institute Sub Committee will be comprised of all young agents planning on attending the National Young Agents Leadership Institute. This group will meet periodically to discuss the trip that occurs in the fall and determine which national awards the VT Young Agents wish to pursue. Each member of the subcommittee is expected to contribute to the award essay submissions through developing, proofing and submitting all essays before deadline. (6-8 people)

The Legislation Sub Committee will be comprised of all young agents planning on attending the Big I Legislation Conference in Washington D.C. The Legislative Coordinator will lead this subcommittee group and meet regularly to discuss the trip as well as pertinent state and federal legislative affairs. The subcommittee will also work to enhance educational opportunities and promote Insure Pac. (6 people)

Community Outreach/InVest
The Community Outreach Sub Committee is tasked to attract new talent to the insurance industry throughout the state. In order to accomplish this, the group should consider various events such as college fairs, career fairs and other opportunities. Expectations include setting up booths and visiting colleges and visiting high schools and/or tech programs in Vermont giving presentations about the industry. This group should also incorporate InVest into their outreach efforts. (5-7 people)

The Make-A-Wish Sub Committee is set up to promote and implement a successful Make-A-Wish campaign on behalf of the Vermont Young Agent Committee. Members will advertise and promote the event to ensure the YAC Group has a successful contribution and turn out at the events. One expectation of the subcommittee is to create a team to walk as VT YACs during the Make-A-Wish walk. (3 people)

Who is an Evolving Leader?

Anyone who currently works in the industry, whether in an agency or carrier. An Evolving Leader does not have to be licensed.


What is the purpose of the VIAA Evolving Leaders Committee?

The purpose of the VIAA Evolving Leaders Committee is to provide a platform that will encourage and support leadership development, education and recruitment of young agents for the members of the VIAA.


What are the goals of the Evolving Leaders?

1. To be a self-sustaining committee that serves as a springboard for perpetuating the leadership of agencies and the support of the VIAA.

2. To be a committee that is successful in assisting with the development of the next generation of young agents in Vermont.

3. To create the networking opportunities focused on creating communications between young agents and the leaders of agencies, the VIAA and the carriers.

4. To assist the VIAA in creating a network of relationships with our educational institutions and other recruiting areas.


Who makes up the Committee?

The committee shall consist of no more than 20 members including Chairperson, Co-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Of the 20 members, no more than 5 insurance company representatives are eligible for membership. There will be no limitation for at-large members.


Who is eligible to join the VIAA Evolving Leader?
You must meet he definition of an Evolving Leader as stated above and be employed by an agency member of the VIAA that is in good standing.


How do I join the Evolving Leaders?

First provide your name, address, agency, and email to Kaittie Murray at (kmurray@therichardsgrp.com) to be added to the list and specify if you are interested in serving on the committee or would just like to be an at-large member. The YAC Leadership will affirm your membership.


How often do the Evolving Leaders meet?

The committee will meet regularly to discuss the agenda and be sure that the committee is on track with objectives and goals. It may be necessary to meet via phone or email in lieu of a physical meeting. The committee can make decisions or votes from those meetings.


What does it cost to join the Evolving Leaders?

There is no membership fee to join the Evolving Leaders. A fee may be charged from time to time for certain events.
